The Flourish Center Somatic
Somatic Music Coaching with Ganesh
Reclaiming presence, freedom, and joy in musical performance — and in life.
For many musicians, the love of music begins in childhood as a source of curiosity, creativity, and joy. Yet as training becomes more serious, the culture surrounding performance can shift toward competition, perfectionism, and results. Over time, musicians may find themselves caught in patterns of harsh self-criticism, performance anxiety, burnout, or a quiet loss of the joy that first drew them to their art.
Somatic Music Coaching offers a different approach.
Somatic Music Coaching
This one-on-one coaching process is designed for professional musicians, conservatory students, teachers, and serious performers who wish to explore a healthier and more integrated relationship with their art form. The work can also benefit other performing artists — dancers and actors — who experience similar pressures within their fields.
At its core, this approach recognizes that performance is not only a technical or intellectual activity — it is also a nervous system experience. Our bodies carry patterns of learning, attachment, and self-perception that influence how we practice, perform, respond to mistakes, and relate to colleagues and audiences.
Through a trauma-informed and somatically grounded process, performers learn to explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion.
A.
Curiosity Instead of Criticism:
Healthy musicianship begins with the understanding that artistic excellence
does not require self-criticism, fear, or disconnection from ourselves. When
musicians learn to approach their craft with curiosity, the nervous system
becomes a place of support rather than pressure.
B.
Presence Instead of Pressure:
When we are truly present in our bodies and our music, learning accelerates,
creativity deepens, and the joy of music-making can re-emerge. Somatic Music
Coaching cultivates this grounded presence as a foundation for performance.
C.
Connection Instead of Competition:
Many of the patterns that limit performers — harsh self-talk, fear of mistakes,
burnout — develop early. Family relationships, parental expectations, and the
pressure to succeed can shape the way young musicians relate to themselves and
their music. This work helps performers reconnect with themselves and others.
D.
Growth Through Reflection:
Rather than fearing mistakes, performers learn to use reflection as a path
toward growth. Messages about achievement, mistakes, and worth that were
internalized in childhood can be explored and gradually transformed into
supportive internal dialogue.

A Different Approach
These patterns often develop very early. Family relationships, parental
expectations, and the pressure to succeed can shape the way young musicians
relate to themselves and their music. Somatic Music Coaching offers a
trauma-informed, somatically grounded path to exploring these patterns with
curiosity and compassion — without requiring you to relive the past or
force change.
C.
Coaching, Not Therapy
Somatic Music Coaching is a coaching and educational process focused on
musicianship and performance experience. It is not therapy. However, it is
informed by trauma-aware principles and nervous system science, and is
offered within the supportive clinical environment of The Flourish Center.
Our Approach to Healthy Musicianship
We believe artistic excellence doesn’t require self-criticism, fear, or disconnection from yourself. Somatic Music Coaching is built on five principles that guide every session: curiosity over criticism, presence over pressure, connection over competition, honoring the body as an instrument of expression, and authentic expression over perfection.
These aren’t just ideas — they’re practices that reshape how your nervous system experiences performance, learning, and creative expression.

FAQ
Q: What is Somatic Music Coaching?
A: Somatic Music Coaching is a one-on-one coaching process that integrates somatic awareness, nervous system regulation, and reflective learning practices to support healthier and more authentic musical performance.
Q: Is this therapy?
Q: Can this help with performance anxiety?
Q: Will this change my musical technique?
A: The focus is not technical instruction. However, when performers become more regulated and present, technique often improves naturally because tension, fear, and over-efforting decrease.
Q: Do I have to talk about personal trauma?
A: No. Personal history may be explored if relevant and the client wishes to do so, but it is not required. The work primarily focuses on present-moment experience and cultivating healthier patterns of learning and performance.
Music has always been a language of connection. When performers learn to listen not only to the music they play, but also to the wisdom of their own body and nervous system, something remarkable can happen. Performance becomes less about proving ourselves and more about sharing something meaningful with others. In this way, the deepest artistry often arises from the simplest place: a musician who feels safe enough to truly listen.
Meet Your Coach: Ganesh Om
Details:
Ganesh immersed himself in studying and teaching Yoga for 18 years. The practices of Kirtan, (devotional chanting) Pranic Healing, (Energy Healing) and Pranayama, (control of the breath) were the parts of Yoga he was the most drawn to and inspired by. Steeped in a classical tradition at the feet of a Guru, he eventually learned to listen to his own inner voice, to set healthy boundaries, and not to place the needs of others over his own, while maintaining an attitude of service over self. When practicing trauma recovery coaching, leading Kirtan, instructing breathing practices, or facilitating energy healing & Quantum Flo mediation sessions, his intention is to stay present and grounded to fully be with his client’s experience. It is only through attunement and a pure witnessing presence that we can heal in connection and relationship with others. We can experience our authentic self through healing in community as we are able to gradually and safely process difficult and challenging experiences that are not who we are. As a musician, Ganesh has performed and recorded with Krishna Das, most notably on his “All One” album, performing on his trumpet in Avatar Studios in New York, NY. Ganesh has led kirtan for many years in Yoga schools and Ashrams during group sessions for teacher trainings, and workshops. As a classical trumpet player, he has performed onstage with Andrea Bocelli, Johnny Mathis, and with the NC Symphony, American Ballet Theater, NC Master Chorale, NC Opera, the Carolina Ballet, and with the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle.
Ganesh is a trauma recovery coach and is currently completing his DARe (Dynamic Attachment Re-patterning Experience) certificate program, with graduation expected in December 2026.
